In the world of Business Relationship Management (BRM), excellence is not just an aspiration—it’s a way of life. Top BRMs, those who consistently lead with vision, innovation, and collaboration, are the backbone of successful organizations. These professionals do more than manage relationships; they drive business outcomes, align strategies, and deliver long-term value to business partners.

For those who truly embody the BRM discipline, the recognition of “GOAT status” (Greatest of All Time) is not just a title—it’s the acknowledgment of hard work, dedication, and impact.

What Does GOAT Status Mean in BRM?

In sports, GOAT status is reserved for the legends who define their field—athletes whose careers are filled with groundbreaking achievements. The term has been adopted in many industries, when it comes to BRM, we’re using it to describe professionals who have demonstrated they apply BRM to their organizations in a way that is driving the needle forward, they have contributed to strengthening the BRM community and enrich the lives of others through excellence in BRM. Lastly, this status is reserved for practicing BRMs who have reached the level of strategic partner by earning their Certified Business Relationship Manager credential.

It’s not just about success in a single project, or milestone- it’s about ongoing commitment to deliver strategic value, championing the BRM discipline, and influencing the future of relationships across industries.

The Path to GOAT Status

As we move into 2025, BRM Institute’s annual recognition of Top BRMs gives us the chance to celebrate those who have achieved great things through BRM. These individuals embody what it means to be a GOAT as a strategic partner. Their contributions inspire us, their leadership exceptional, and their influence is widespread.

Recognizing a Top BRM When You See One

  • Relationship Wizardry: At the heart of BRM is the ability to build strong, mutually beneficial relationships. Top BRMs know how to connect with business partners at all levels and across all functions.
  • Innovation & Adapability: The best BRMs are innovators. They are continously looking to improve, be it processes, leverage technology, solve complex business problems. Their ability to see long-term and navigate uncertainity is what sets them apart from others in this field.
  • Community Engagement- GOAT status isn’t just about individual achievements- it’s about lifting others up. Top BRMs are actively engaged in the single, global BRM community. Through mentoring, knowledge development groups, leading community groups, becoming a Storyteller, volunteering to support the growth of the BRM discipline and other activities.
