Meet Marleen Lundy, Event Manager Extraordinaire

Posted | Category: BRM Community | Contributed

With officially less than a month to go until the first conference, we have been living, breathing, eating, and sleeping BRMConnect here at BRM Institute—so it makes sense that we wanted to learn more about one of the chief masterminds in charge of making it all happen, Marleen Lundy!

An experienced event planner and dedicated member of the BRM Institute team, Marleen has been working tirelessly around-the-clock to make sure the 2016 BRMConnect conferences are the event series you’ll be talking about for the rest of the year. Keep reading to hear more about how she got into the world of event planning, what she’s looking forward to the most about BRMConnect, and why she thinks the BRM community is special.

How did you first get into the world of event planning? What do you enjoy most about it?

I entered the crazy world of event planning in 1994 when I was working for a start-up that needed someone to help on trade shows. I was captivated by all of the elements in planning and organizational skills that’s required to pull off a successful event. What I enjoy most about event planning is when the event is happening—it’s when I’m able to see all of the planning and preparation come together to achieve all of the goals that were set so many months prior. I also get a lot of joy out of knowing that when I do my job well, the attendees will have a great experience.

I can’t believe the first BRMConnect conference is coming up in just a month! What excites you the most about it? What makes it unique from other events you’ve planned in the past?

I’m excited to be the ambassador of an event that will continue to build the BRM community. The most unique element to the BRMConnect conference in Charlotte is the venue—both the Speedway Club and the Charlotte Motor Speedway are venues that are so rich with character and history that even if you aren’t a racing fan, you can’t help but be excited and amazed at what you see.

In your opinion, what is the best part about being a part of the BRM Institute team? What makes the BRM community special?

The best part about being on the BRM Institute team is working with a group of people who are passionate about helping others be successful. The BRM community is special for the same reason that I like working at BRM Institute…everyone is passionate about helping others be successful. BRMs also have a strong desire to continue developing their skills and capabilities, which I value.

If you could plan any event in the world for the person of your choosing (with an unlimited budget!), who would it be for and what would it be like?

I’m not sure I can pick one person I’d like to plan an event for! I’d love to plan an event where I could bring together amazing and inspiring people to share their experiences. The room would be filled with people who took risks to create change or stepped up to be leaders when the time called for one.
